Tummy Tuck

The purpose of this procedure is to improve the contours of your abdominal area, correcting and tightening unwanted tissue resulting from pregnancy, weight loss, or weak abdominal muscles.

Tissue that is stretched and does not respond to diet and exercise can be improved upon achieving a smooth, flat stomach. This procedure can also work to increase the visible definition of your abdominal muscles. The best candidates are those who have stabilized any weight change and feel they have acquired their ideal proportions. Many patients choose to have other treatments, such as liposuction or breast augmentation, completed at the same time. The results achieved will depend upon the extent of the treatment you desire.

Your surgeon will discuss what procedure is best suited to you, as there are various techniques available. Liposuction alone may be all that is needed to remove unwanted tissue and create a thin abdominal wall. Another option is a mini tummy tuck, which can correct the skin below the navel, while liposuction can then focus on the upper abdomen. A full tummy tuck can be performed on those with severe amounts of unwanted tissue. In a full tummy tuck, incisions are made from hip to hip and around the navel. Unwanted tissue and skin is removed and the whole abdominal wall is tightened. A mini tummy tuck involves only one incision along the bikini line.

Abdominal bandages are used for several weeks for support. There may be some scarring and numbness in the area, both of which will fade over time. Any stitches and drains will be removed in the weeks following surgery. You may return to work in a few weeks but should avoid strenuous activity during recovery time. With the correct procedure, you can achieve a smooth abdomen that results in great contours for the muscles underneath.
