Arm Reshaping
Arm Reshaping — commonly referred to as an upper arm lift or brachioplasty — is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin and tissue from the upper arm to create a slimmer, smoother, and more defined appearance. It is best suited for patients who cannot improve this area through diet or exercise alone, those who have experienced significant weight loss, or those who have lost skin elasticity over time.
The most common technique involves an incision running along the inner aspect of the arm from the elbow to the armpit. The excess tissue is removed, the arm is reshaped, and liposuction may be used to further refine the result. Where tissue removal is minor, the incision may be limited to the armpit crease, where it can be more easily concealed.
Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine following recovery helps preserve results and supports a more comfortable, confident appearance in short sleeves and fitted clothing.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but the following timeline provides a general guideline:
- First 48–72 hours: Swelling and discomfort are expected. A compression garment is worn 24 hours a day and arm elevation is encouraged when resting.
- Week 1: Bruising and swelling begin to improve. Light activities may be resumed, but lifting and strenuous use of the arms should be avoided. The compression garment continues to be worn at all times, removing it only for showering and laundering.
- Weeks 1–2: Most patients feel comfortable returning to work and light daily activities. The compression garment remains worn around the clock during this period.
- Weeks 2–6: The garment continues to be worn for most or all of the day. Dr. Adibfar will advise on transitioning to daytime-only wear once swelling has sufficiently improved.
- After 6 weeks: Most patients can stop wearing the garment, though some may benefit from continued use if swelling persists. Dr. Adibfar will confirm at your follow-up appointment.
- 3–6 months: Scars continue to fade and the refined arm contour is fully apparent. Wearing sun protection over the incision helps optimize scar appearance over time.
Dr. Adibfar will provide detailed post-operative instructions and monitor your healing closely throughout your recovery to ensure the best possible outcome.
