Tummy Tuck
A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that improves the contours of the abdominal area by removing excess skin and tissue and tightening the underlying abdominal wall. Many patients choose to combine the procedure with liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, upper and/or lower back to achieve a more cohesive, sculpted result that transitions smoothly from the front to the sides and back.
Ideal candidates are those who have stabilized their weight and feel they are at their ideal proportions, but cannot achieve the abdominal contour they desire through diet and exercise alone.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but the following timeline provides a general guideline:
- First 48–72 hours: Swelling and discomfort are expected. A surgical garment is applied for support, and light walking is encouraged from the outset to promote circulation.
- Week 1: Drains, if placed, are typically removed. The surgical garment is worn continuously — removing it only to shower — and should feel snug but not restrictive. Heavy lifting and strenuous activity must be avoided.
- Weeks 2–3: Many patients return to desk-based work. Dissolvable sutures are used, so no stitch removal is needed.
- Weeks 3–6: Garment wear may transition to daytime only or a lighter option, as directed by Dr. Adibfar. Exercise is gradually reintroduced once cleared. Most patients wear compression for approximately six weeks in total.
- 3–6 months: Residual swelling, firmness, and numbness continue to resolve. Final results become fully apparent and scars continue to fade over the following year.
