Botox

Botox Cosmetic® is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles responsible for producing dynamic wrinkles. Within a few days of treatment, patients will notice a smoothing effect — wrinkles diminish dramatically or disappear altogether — restoring a more rested, refreshed appearance. Botox can also be used therapeutically to reduce hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and to relax strong masseter muscles that contribute to a wide jaw or clenching.

Most adults are suitable candidates for Botox. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological condition should consult their physician before proceeding. Botox is introduced directly into the targeted muscles — addressing concerns such as crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and gummy smile. When placed along the lower brow or at the corners of the mouth, it can also serve as a non-surgical alternative to a brow lift or lip lift.

Treatments are quick, require no anesthesia, and patients return to their normal activities immediately. Results typically last three to six months, with follow-up treatments available thereafter.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery varies from patient to patient, but the following timeline provides a general guideline:

  • Before treatment: To reduce the risk of bruising, it is recommended to avoid non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements for 5–7 days prior — including aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic supplements, and ginseng. Alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours before treatment. Always consult your prescribing healthcare provider before stopping any medication.
  • Immediately after: Patients return to normal activities right away. Lying down should be avoided for the first four hours following treatment. Mild redness or slight swelling at injection sites may occur and resolve within minutes to hours. Alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours after treatment as well.
  • Days 7–14: Full results are visible. The treated areas appear noticeably smoother and more refreshed.
  • 3–6 months: Results begin to gradually wear off as the protein is naturally metabolized. A repeat treatment can be scheduled to maintain the effect.
