Eyelid Lift
As your Toronto plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali Adibfar takes a closer look at an eyelid lift procedure. The eyelid lift focuses on creating a more youthful, energized appearance by smoothing out age-related changes in the upper and lower eyelids. This procedure is aimed at those who wish to correct wrinkles, bags or heaviness in the eyelids that can produce a tired, worn-out appearance in the face. You should, however, inform your surgeon if you have corrective lenses, contacts or dry eyes, as this will affect the approach to surgery. The eyelid lift can also be preformed in conjunction with the brow or facelift.
Incisions will be made in the natural creases of your eyelids and the removal or redistribution of tissue will reduce puffiness and bags around the eyes. The skin and muscle may be tightened underneath the eye, giving a rejuvenated look rather than a “hollow” one.
If your attention is focused only on puffy lower lids, then a modified procedure may be performed. Hidden incisions will be made on the inside of the lower eyelid to remove any unwanted tissue. While this process may not be applicable to everyone, it is often requested, as it does not leave visible scars.
Complications such as Hematoma, infection and dry eyes are possible but uncommon and should be discussed with your surgeon. Most patients resume normal activity within two to three weeks, and all incisions fade almost completely away within a few months. Exercise, stress, alcohol, and sleeping in a head-down position should be avoided in the first few weeks. Some swelling and bruising may occur, but on the advice of your surgeon, cool cloths or compresses can be used to reduce this. Make-up can be applied to hide any effects during your recovery.
